Patrick Steven McCormick

April 9, 1944 - May 11, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Patrick McCormick, who left us peacefully with his family surrounding him at his home on Sunday, May 11, 2025, at the age of 81 from long-term heart complications.

Patrick Steven McCormick was born on April 9, 1944, in Sacramento, California, at McClelland Airforce Base. At a young age, he traveled all around the U.S. with his family, as his father was a professional baseball player and a player manager for farm teams. Growing up mostly in Ventura, Patrick attended Ventura High School and Ventura College and later served in the Army Reserve as a medic. He worked many out-of-state jobs as a medic and safety inspector in places like Saudi Arabia, Alaska, and Belize, which eventually satisfied his want to travel. Then he settled into his career as a Respiratory Therapist.

He lived the last 56 years in the Ojai Valley with his wife, Carol Simonson McCormick, and his growing family. He was the rock of our family. Steady, dependable, and wise, he provided strength in every season. Alongside his beloved wife, who was the heart of the family, they were a force together, showing all of us how powerful love, unity, and commitment can be. Through every challenge, they stood side by side, a true example of how a family can weather any storm together.

Patrick was someone you could always count on. If you needed help, advice, a shoulder to lean on, or simply someone to listen, he was there. With his no-nonsense presence and honest heart, he gave the kind of advice that stuck with you. He encouraged everyone around him to be their best and never give up. There was never a family member — or even an animal — he wouldn’t take in and care for. His home was always open, and his heart was always bigger than the moment. His integrity and dependability were just a few of the many traits that made him so special.

Patrick had many passions including watching Dodger baseball (one team his father played on in Brooklyn), playing volleyball and softball, crossword puzzles, the beach, body surfing, staying informed on world events, enjoying good seafood, making his famous salsa, and watching his TV shows.

Patrick is survived by his wife, Carol Simonson McCormick, his four children, Tara Ransom (Rodney), Mia McCormick, Tyler McCormick (Jamie), and Meg McCormick (Camron). Ten grandchildren, Cameron Ransom, Caleb Ransom (Sherine), Christian Ransom, Caysee McCormick Ransom, Carlee McCormick, Cali McCormick, Maeve McCormick, Vivie McCormick, Molly McCormick, and Lilz McCormick Brown, and his great-grandson, Aiden Ransom. His beloved dog, Apollo, and many more cherished family members and dear friends.

A service to celebrate Patrick’s life will be held on June 28 at 10 a.m. at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church on the corner of Bristol and Ojai Ave. at 409 Topa Topa Dr. We will have a celebration of life for friends and family after the service at Camp Comfort ($5 entrance fee).

We will miss his steady presence, warm laugh, and unconditional love every single day. Though he is no longer with us in body, his legacy of love, strength, and devotion lives on in each of us. Patrick’s family would like to thank Livingston Memorial Hospice, Dr. Jim Halverson, and Dr. McKinney for all their help and support.
