Green or natural burial returns the body directly to the earth in a simple biodegradable shroud or casket where it will decompose and become a life source to the surrounding flora and fauna. Due to the distance and range of pricing options for green burial in California, the total cost of a green burial varies widely. If the decedent or next of kin has not yet made burial arrangements, we can help you make all final arrangements with our green cemetery partners or the green cemetery of your choice, including:

Selecting a cemetery and purchasing a plot
Purchasing a biodegradable casket, alternative container, or shroud
Filing permits
Assistance with cooling and preparing the body for cremation or burial in the home (bathing, dressing, shrouding, casketing)
Removal and refrigeration of the body if needed while permits are processed and disposition arrangements are made
Providing transport, coordinating 3rd party transport, or assisting the family with self-transport to the cemetery
Coordination with a funeral home in proximity to the cemetery and/or the cemetery for services and burial

Story of a Natural Burial at Creston Cemetery

I was honored to be among the small group that assembled for a natural burial at Creston Cemetery recently. Four of us representing the funeral home and cemetery, including the person who hand dug the grave with her daughters, had never met this kind soul in life. We were joined by seven others that included family, friends, and community death support. All of us were united by our commitment to the wishes of the deceased and commitment to one of the defining characteristics of natural burial: Family and community are central to the task.
